Import permission for products of animal origin

An application is necessary when importing different products of animal origin, because there are many different processes involved, including guidelines and regulations, permits and certification, and associated fees.

The importation of beef, pork and poultry meat is possible from establishments approved by the USDA, DG SANTE/EU or our department of Veterinary Affairs. For any other product, i.e. milk and milk products, eggs and egg products, honey and gelatin contact us.

Steps to import products of animal origin

Is importation allowed and what are the requirements?

Obtaining import permission:

  1. Once you have an approved establishment
    to import products from and a shipment is ready:

    Upload and send the necessary documentation:

    1. Official International Health Certificate issued by the competent veterinary authority
    2. Airwaybill
    3. Invoice
    4. Certificate of origin
  2. Pay import permit fee. An invoice will
    be sent to your e-mail
  3. UO VZ will evaluate sent
    documentation:

    • The documents are complete and
      comply: Entry is approved. An import permit will be sent via e-mail. This permit has a validity of
      30 days
    • The documents are incomplete or
      do not comply: Entry is denied. Repeat step 1B.

Upon the arrival of the products:

A physical inspection of all meat products arriving in our country must be conducted by
our inspectors at the port of entry. The international health certificate and import permit must be presented.
Non-complying shipments will be rejected, confiscated and/or destroyed at the owner’s expense.
