Import permission for live animals
An application is necessary when importing different live animals, because there are many different processes involved, including guidelines and regulations, permits and certification, and associated fees.
Steps to import live animals
Is importation allowed and what are the requirements?
Find the requirements of popular species from popular countries:
- Dogs, cats or ferrets
- Domestic rabbit
- Guinea pig
- Hamsters
- Live fish, gametes or larvae
- Turtles
Is the species and/or country you intend to import from not specified in the list? Fill out and send the application form to get information to [email protected]
Obtaining import permission:
- Once your pet complies with the requirements
1A. Download and fill in the application form
1B. Send it to [email protected]. Upload and send official documentation issued by the competent veterinary authority (Official International Health Certificate or scan of relevant pages of Official EU passport).
- Pay the import fee. An invoice will be sent to your e-mail
- UO VZ will evaluate the sent documentation:
- The documents are complete and comply: Entry is approved. An import permit will be sent via e-mail. This permit has a validity of 30 days.
- The documents are incomplete or do not comply: Entry is denied. Repeat step 1B.
Upon the arrival of animals:
The international health certificate and import permit of animals arriving in our country must be presented to customs so they can be released for entry or go to a mandatory quarantine. Note that all poultry and bird shipments must be inspected by our officers at the port of entry. Non-complying animals will be rejected, confiscated and/or euthanized at the owner’s expense.
